ALAN NAKAZAWA
PARTNER • LONG BEACH
Alan is engaged in maritime, general transportation, commercial and environmental law practice. His practice includes cargo and freight matters, maritime lien enforcement, charter party disputes, bills of lading issues, arrests and attachments, pollution, customs and immigration matters. He has represented shipowners with regard to oil spill litigation, including investigations, Coast Guard proceedings and law enforcement proceedings, as well as dealing with related governmental and media interests. He has extensive experience litigating in federal and state courts, has a series of successes in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and a significant maritime decision in the United States Supreme Court.
Alan obtained his undergraduate degree from Yale University with a specialty in American Studies law. He obtained his law degree from the University of Southern California Law Center.
Prior to joining Collier Walsh Nakazawa LLP, Alan was a founding member of Cogswell Nakazawa & Chang, LLP, and a partner in Lillick McHose & Charles.
Alan was a lecturer at the Norwegian Shipping Academy, International Bunker Conference, Oslo, Norway in 1992, and was an institute faculty member at the Tulane University Admiralty Law Institute in 2005 and 2011.
